My family has used this funeral home for generations without issue until today. However, I cannot express eloquently the disgust and dissatifaction that I am left with after the wake of my maternal grandfather. As a family of pallative care professionals, I can honestly say that the lack of respect and empathy that my mother recieved while trying to deal with the death of her father is appalling and unmatched in any of my experiences. My mother requested to say her final goodbyes to her father in private before the wake as she has done previous times with other family members at this business. She was denied any empathy and was completely disrespected by the interim Funeral Director Mr. Wrisley of South Deerfield. Not only was she denied the closure of saying goodbye to her father in peace, she was severely disrespected and was told "it was against his wife's wishes" for her to attend the wake at all. My mother was born to this man in wedlock and should never have been denied the common decincey to say goodbye to this man in private before the ceremony to avoid any issues. This wake was open to the public and surely his own flesh and blood daughter would not be denied from this. I am utterly disappointed in the lack of empathy/respect/consideration/general human decency and I am certain that Mr, Walker would have never treated a loyal customer of more than 40 years with such disrespect. Congratulations Walker Funeral Home on treating a woman who has devoted her life to caring for dying veterans like a second class citizen and denying her closure with her father's death. You must have slept through you Death and Dying 101 class where the first thing they teach you is funerals are for the living not for the dead. THIS BUSINESS HAS FAILED US GREATLY. IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT GO ELSEWHERE!!!
